Celebrate the biggest day of your life with family and loved ones at the Mother Church of Montréal.

Receive the Sacrament of Matrimony

On your wedding day, before your parents and friends and in the presence of God, you commit yourself in complete freedom, without constraint from anyone or anything, to create with your spouse a true community of life and love as the Church understands it, consecrated by Christ in the sacrament of matrimony.

You believe that in the sacrament of matrimony, Jesus commits himself to you and consecrates your union. With him, you will be able to answer his call.

Our pastoral team enjoys being part of the wonderful memories of the many people who choose to be married at the Basilica.

Choose a time and date

Weddings are celebrated in the Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur Chapel or in the Basilica itself. The wedding venue is reserved for the couple. Ceremonies are usually held on Saturdays from April to November inclusive. However, parishioners may also celebrate their marriages from December to March. Please note that no weddings can be held on Sundays.

A wedding is a celebration that requires a lot of preparation. To make your union a reality, we ask you to contact us within the following time frame:

If you are from the Montréal area, you must contact us as soon as possible, at least six (6) months in advance to select the available dates and times.

If you are from outside the Montréal area, you must contact us as soon as possible, at least eight (8) months in advance to select the available dates and times.

The Process

The overseeing priest opens the file and outlines the main steps with the couple. The process leading to the marriage ceremony is as follows:

  • The couple secures baptismal and confirmation certificates and a photocopy of birth certificates
  • They complete a premarital inventory and deepen their understanding of the pastoral meaning of marriage with the priest who will preside over the ceremony
  • The couple registers for marriage preparation meetings with an official organization recognized by the Diocese of Montréal
  • They choose a date for the rehearsal, normally one week before the wedding

*Note: Please note that the overseeing priest meets with all couples. He will tell you who will accompany you in your preparations and who will celebrate your wedding.
